New Loadshedding Schedule for Greater Mossel Bay (and The Island, Great Brak) - Feb 2, 2015

2/2/2015

IMPORTANT UPDATE:  Effective July 1, 2015 there is a new load shedding schedule for the Greater Mossel Bay area - see this post for the new schedule.  Until that time, the February, 2015 load shedding schedule (below) remains in effect.
UPDATE:  Check out the (free) GridWatch apps for either Android or iOS from News24 and receive load shedding notifications for locations you choose (Groot Brak, George, etc. - and yes, George is on a different schedule...) direct to your device as they are announced.

Mossel Bay Municipality's Technical Department has just forwarded a new load shedding schedule for the area (it comes from Eskom).  It is quite different from previous versions as not only are there 4 stages now (1, 2, 3A & 3B), but it is also day-of-month-dependent.

You may download it below or find it on the Municipality's own website which has also been updated.

Hi Susan - the load shedding schedule posted is for *every* month going forward, subject to further notice. In other words, the same for Feb, Mar, Apr, etc. until Eskom issues a new one (this info comes from Mossel Bay Municipality’s Technical Department).

Hi Patrys - hope you don't mind a reply in English. I post the load shedding announcements for Greater Mossel Bay because The Island at Great Brak is included within that area. You can confirm with Mossel Bay Municipality's Technical Services Department (see: http://www.mosselbay.gov.za/how_do_i_faq/7/Contact_a_municipal_department) which if the smaller villages are included within their area, but here's what I know:

Reebok, Klein Brak and Hartenbos (and Hartenbosheuwels) are all included within the Greater Mossel Bay load shedding schedule. I believe that Dana Bay is separate.

Another option is to use News24's handy load shedding app: GridWatch (go to http://loadshedding.news24.com/) and type in the name of the town - you may have to try both Afrikaans and English (Great Brak only shows up as Groot Brak, for instance). The app tells you the current load shedding status for that town - but you have to go in and check yourself. You can even enter a couple of different places if you want to keep track of both Klein Brak and Dana Bay, for instance. Reebok doesn't show up, but I presume it is covered under "Mossel Bay".

Sometimes, though, you'll find yourself in a small pocket that doesn't get a power disruption. Sometimes this is because a specific transformer needs to have power maintained to it. Other times it's a mystery! Tergniet, for instance, is often immune to our little power cuts (and The Island occasionally, too). See this explanation from today's Mossel Bay Advertiser: http://www.mosselbayadvertiser.com/news/News/General/134418/Munisipaliteit-verduidelik-beurtkraggedeeltes

By the way,it's since been announced that load shedding has been escalated to Stage 3, which means we can expect to be without power this evening (Weds, Apr 15, 2015) from 8 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Good luck!

Diego - I'm not sure you've realized it, but you're looking at a post that is over 4 years old (Feb 2015!). The latest load shedding schedule I have for the greater Mossel Bay area is in this post: https://www.theislandgreatbrak.com/island-blog/load-shedding-schedule-for-greater-mossel-bay-including-the-island

But, a much better idea is to download the handy (and free) Android/iOS app, EskomSePush, at https://sepush.co.za/. Then you just enter the area you are interested in (you can include multiple areas) and you'll see the current load shedding status and the hours it goes into effect, etc. The Island is included under "Groot Brak (7)".

Good luck - and you are welcome.
