Eskom has announced they will implement Stage 2 load shedding today, from 8:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. this evening.  Based on the new load shedding schedule for the Greater Mossel Bay area (which went into effect on July 1st), this means if you're on The Island, you can expect to be without power from 4:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. tonight.

Good news for Apple users, too - the iOS version of the GridWatch app has been released and is available for download (free) from iTunes. 

Not to be outdone, albeit, rather late to the game, Eskom has just launched their own MyEskom apps which also provide load shedding schedules and information.  You can download the Android version from the Google Play store or the iOS version from iTunes.  I've not used either of the Eskom apps - but the GridWatch apps, above, work like a charm.

Many thanks to one of my neighbours for alerting me to this important piece of news:  the Great Brak Total filling station will be closing on July 6th for renovations (including new underground fuel tanks).  All sections, including the Shop and Steers, will be closed.  Renovations are expected to take anywhere from 3-4 months. I also confirmed this information with Nico Dippenaar, the owner/operator.

If you need fuel for your vehicle, the nearest filling station is the Total at Fraaiuitsig - if you have a tendency to jump in the car with a nearly-empty tank, you may find you that you'll have to push your way to Hartenbos, Mossel Bay or George, so be fore-warned!

If you need propane gas for your heaters, Weber BBQ's (gasp, did I really type that?), etc., you can get a refill from Neville and his folks at the Great Brak Hardware Shop (near the shoe factory).
