Prepaid Electricity & Mobile Recharging Online

Most holiday homes have prepaid electricity meters for which "units" or "tokens" are purchased.  If you find it inconvenient to run into the village to purchase these at the Groot Brak Kafee (at 20 Lang Street), the good news is you can purchase them online.  Here are two options:
Picture
Prepaid24.com allows users to recharge their electricity meters and mobile phones using their safe & secure Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) service.  There's no service charge beyond what your bank may or may not charge for the EFT.
Picture
iTron Energy (formerly iPay online) allows registered users to recharge their electricity meters using a credit card, again, without any extra fees.  Handy if you don't have a South African bank account.  You'll first have to send a fax with a copy of your credit card, ID document and a recent utility bill.  Note:  their service doesn't support the recharge of mobile phone accounts, so you'll still have to run to a shop to do that.

Loadshedding Schedules (as of Nov 2014)

Of course, recharging your prepaid electricity meter assumes that power is available - something which unfortunately can't be taken for granted these days.  When Eskom has declared loadshedding in effect, you may find the following schedule helpful (as of November, 2014), courtesy of the Mossel Bay Municipality:
