Christmas Ride & Run - Making Room for Christmas Dinner!

25/12/2015

The ride felt pretty good this morning - we stopped at 25K (it seemed appropriate for the 25th) but we could have gone another 25K.  So when I got home I strapped on the old running shoes and did a quick run out to Southern Cross - have to make room I still fit in my clothes after the Christmas turkey (actually, it's a Moroccan spiced butterflied leg of lamb...).

Running The Island to Southern Cross Loop (& Pilates - Not Just For the Girls - at Southern Cross Beach)

Okay, making a bit of progress, it's no longer feels like I've got a grand piano tied to my butt - just a baby grand.... the treadmill, even with a 2° elevation adjustment to simulate wind, just isn't the same as hitting the old asphalt (never mind the humidity).  But we knew that, didn't we? :)

Meanwhile, the girls were out at Southern Cross beach doing their Pilates - a bit tricky crossing the excess water which was released from the dam, but they ended up there in the end...  The Pilates sessions (R50) are more or less just for the holidays (except for the next few days apparently).  There was a flyer in the Spar - I'll try to take a photo and post it later.

Yup, there's always time for a quick run (okay, maybe it wasn't so quick...)

There's Plenty for the Running/Cycling Fanatic this Season

During the holiday season, the area from George to Mossel Bay goes crazy with road runs, trail runs, mountain bike races, and all sorts of combinations of the two.  It's incredible.  Great Brak is right in the thick of things, with many events taking place here.

Of course, there's the Great Brak Grabadoo, held annually each December 31st.  This year is no different, so if you're a keen mountain biker (or are into the family fun walk), get your gear on and register now.

Click on the image below to register or to find out more - or read the latest article about the event in the Mossel Bay Advertiser.

If you're a runner, you'll probably want to check out the Great Brak Total Moordkuil road running race (4.5 km or 15 km) which starts at 7:00 a.m., December 28th in the tiny hamlet of Friemersheim, just above Great Brak.  More details in the Mossel Bay Advertiser.

But why stop with there?  TriSport also organizes a number of trail running and mountain biking events in the area, including the Wild Goose Chase on Feb 15th (mountain biking) and the Wild Goose Run (yup, running, just like it sounds...) on Dec 27th, both of which take place on Retief Goosen's wine estate near George.

If you have any energy left, you can do the Glentana Wreck Challenge on Jan 2nd!
