Found this little fellow (gal?) on the back deck this morning. S/he appeared to be in distress and was still there at 4:20 p.m. today. Not sure what kind of bird it is (I am sure the beak/bill offer some sort of clue). Hopefully mom came along earlier this evening, as the chick was nowhere in sight when I went out again around 9:30 p.m. tonight with a little shelter and some food....

The Mossel Bay Advertiser is advising that additional loadshedding will be scheduled from 4-6:30 p.m. today and again from midnight tonight until 2:20 a.m.
Apparently the first outage this morning caused problems with the battery at the Great Brak sub-station and it is taking longer than anticipated to make the necessary repairs. Today's online edition of the Mossel Bay Advertiser had an update advising that Eskom had declared an emergency this morning and warned of possible power cuts. The full article is available here. Meanwhile, Eskom's website indicates they are at loadshedding stage 3: The loadshedding section of their website does not, however, provide a specific schedule for Great Brak.
It appears that Eskom's emergency loadshedding is impacting The Island this morning. No word on when power may be restored...
A bit of a sprint up the R102, getting to the top just before the fog rolled in, then back out to the farmland at the foot of the Outeniqua mountains and down the winding Charles Street gravel road overlooking the old pump station and along the Great Brak River back to The Island. The sun has now burned off almost all of the fog, with just a few puffs of mist remaining - no doubt, the beginning of another spectacular day! Click on the image below for the full workout details on Sports-Tracker.com Another fantastic day - and enough time to squeeze in a leisurely paddle up the river and back before sunset. A bit shallow under the Amy Searle bridge in the village (had to get out), but whose to complain when you've got glass-like water, fish jumping, birds chirping, horses grazing amidst clear blue skies, green riverbanks and majestic mountains in the distance?
Click on the image below for the full work-out details on Sports-Tracker.com The George Golf Club was quiet and the course was in perfect conditions - though it was a bit on the warm side at 36° C and not a breathe of wind in the air. But with scenery like this who can complain?
With a couple of rounds of finally hitting 100% of the fairways under my belt, I will go out on a limb and tempt the golf gods, but it seems I might have finally tamed the driver (even maxing it out at 257 meters on hole #7 today). All thanks to finally remembering to do a mental review of last year's lessons with Kingswood Golf Club's Director of Golf and SA National Women's Coach, Val Holland. Book a lesson with Val and you'll definitely see an improvement in your game - if she's good enough for Leanne Pace, she's good enough for me! Now, that just leaves the remaining 13 clubs in the bag to sort out... Things are bustling at the Great Brak Uitspan Mark today - a great setting in the park right on the banks of the river. The antiques across the street at Traders Auctioneers are also drawing a fair bit of interest today. The next market day is Saturday, March 29th.
